Sahara Dust Expected to Arrive in West Tennessee Thursday
Weather Update – 11:00 p.m. – Wednesday, June 24th
A cold front coming through West Tennessee now is bringing some relief from the heat and humidity. Sections of northwest Tennessee are enjoying dew points in the 50s right now, but southwest Tennessee is still in the “humid” category. We’re expecting this cold front to only briefly be with us before the hot and humid weather returns over the next few days.
TONIGHT
Heavy showers were spotted earlier over southwest Tennessee this evening but we’ll be mostly dry for the rest of the night under mostly clear to partly cloudy skies. Temperatures will drop to the middle and upper 60s by sunrise Thursday morning.

Expect a hot day tomorrow with temperatures in the middle to upper 80s under mostly sunny, but hazy skies. Dust from the Sahara Desert will be over West Tennessee Thursday and continues into this weekend. The image above shows that the dust is expected to be at its “thickest” overnight Saturday into Sunday morning. No recommendations are currently being made to do anything different to our gardens or pools but those with respiratory conditions including asthma should limit time outdoors from Thursday through Sunday if possible.
