Mother of 4 Scared after Shots Fired into Neighbor’s Home

JACKSON, Tenn — A north Jackson mother said she is terrified after a gun fires just feet from her home. Ebony Yarbrough said she and her four kids were sitting at home Tuesday afternoon when they heard a popping noise. “I didn’t know I thought it was some fireworks or somebody just playing around and didn’t know there was gunshots so close to my house,” Yarbrough said. Police say just before 2 p.m., a shot was fired into a house on Northfield Cove. Two workers were in the house at the time, but no one was injured. “I don’t understand what it is. I don’t know about the gang violence talking or anything about that but if it is what’s going on they kindly need to slow down, because its hard for kids,” she said. Yarbrough was shocked to hear gunshots in the middle of the day and now worries about her kids’ safety. “I don’t let them go outside. I just moved over here about 2 weeks ago, hadn’t been here long and I’d heard about violence over here but I just thought I could try to keep them safe,” she said. Yarbrough said the act of violence will force her to educate her kids, even her 3-year-old, about violence in Jackson. “It’s real sad but in this world I think you’re going to have to teach them because after a while I’m not going to be here forever to protect them and keep them safe,” she said. She said she already plans to move out of the neighborhood next year. “It’s getting harder and harder to keep everybody safe. But I’m going to pray about it and everything will work out,” she said. WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News reached out to the owner of the home hit by a bullet, but she declined to talk.
