NORTH JACKSON — For those that are familiar with Tim’s Corner, you’ve probably seen him waving at people as they drive through North Highland Avenue. Timothy Coats, the man who stands under the Jackson Oaks Pavillion, turned 59 years old. On Tuesday afternoon, family and friends gave the Jackson native a cake of his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals, and more than a thousand cards were mailed in from across the nation. Coats has cerebral palsy and has sat at the corner of North Highland for 18 years, greeting drivers with a smile. “He’s out here rain or shine, he’s out here in the snow, in the storm,” Jill Joiner said, Business Development Coordinator at Jackson Oaks. “And if there’s a day that he misses our phone starts ringing with people saying ‘is Tim OK?” The residence says the pavilion was built for Tim back in 2008 after a tornado destroyed their building. Jackson Oaks says they’re still accepting cards for Tim’s birthday.
