DOWNTOWN JACKSON — County employees are one step closer to getting bonuses after commissioners support the motion on Monday afternoon. Full-time employees are set to receive $750 bonuses, and part-time employees will receive $250 bonuses. Originally it was proposed that all employees would get pay raises, but the Madison County Financial Management Committee voted against the raises and supported the alternative of bonuses. “Many of the department heads felt that the lump sum dollar amount in the employee’s right now versus a small percentage over the course of a year would be more helpful,” Mark Johnstone said, chairman of the Madison County Commission. The motion must get voted on again before it can go into effect. The second reading is tentatively scheduled for July 1. The commission also decided to support the committee’s decision not to cut any library funding. Property taxes will also stay the same this year.
