New tennis courts to be served up in Jackson

NORTH JACKSON — Tennis enthusiasts of Jackson will soon have a new place to serve and smash. The groundbreaking for the new complex was held Tuesday morning near the former Highland Green Golf Course. The addition of nearly 30 courts and a few practice soccer courts are planned. “We’re going to have all kinds of league play here,” Jerry Hellums said, president of the Better Tennis for Jackson. “We’re going to have youth tournaments; we’re going to have older tournaments…we’ll have instructional tennis for anybody wants to learn how to play tennis.” Hellums hopes for the complex to be open and ready for play by this fall.
