Rep. DesJarlais to undergo cancer treatments
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais’ office says the East Tennessee Republican has been diagnosed with early-stage cancer in his neck.
DesJarlais will undergo radiation and chemotherapy treatments and is expected to make a full recovery.
The congressman said in a release Friday that he was fortunate that the cancer was caught early, and that he doesn’t expect the treatments to interfere with his work.
DesJarlais is facing a tough primary challenge from state Sen. Jim Tracy of Shelbyville in the Republican primary. Tracy has significantly outraised the incumbent. Early voting for the Aug. 7 primary begins next week.
DesJarlais will be treated in Chattanooga beginning next week
