Man police say could be connected to three deaths appears in court

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man police say could be connected to two separate homicides will now have his case bound over to grand jury. Craig Taylor appeared in Jackson City Court Thursday afternoon to answer to first degree murder and attempted armed robbery charges. Police say DNA linked Taylor to the 2012 shooting death of Devon Staton. Investigators say Taylor tried to rob Staton’s girlfriend outside the couple’s home on Leland Lane, and the two men exchanged gunfire, leaving Staton dead. Taylor is also suspected of driving the getaway car in a north Jackson double killing in January, that left Markel Owens, 21, Johnny Shivers, 36, dead after a home invasion on Walker Road. Taylor is being held without bond due.
