Surveillance video catches burglars pulling safe out of Dollar General

McNAIRY COUNTY, Tenn. — McNairy County Sheriff’s Department deputies are searching for two or more criminals involved in taking a safe from a Dollar General store in Milledgeville. Early Monday morning, someone broke the lock off of the front door and backed a vehicle near the entrance. Someone in camouflage tied a rope around a safe near the cash registers, and dragged it out of the store. Officers said nearly $7,000 of cash was inside the safe, and they’re still searching for suspects. “We can’t see a good facial shot of anyone, and we really can’t even see a good video of the vehicle. The lights of the store happened to be off outside,” Lt. Brad Johnson with the McNairy County Sheriff’s Dept. said. Officers said the cameras are motion-censored, only getting the action after the vehicle pulled in. They also say this part of the county is a less-patrolled area because it is on the edge of McNairy County. “It’s within approximately 400 feet or less to Hardin County and 100 feet to Chester County. It’s right in the very northeast of the county,” Lt. Johnson said. Milledgeville residents like Matthew Schmidt said it’s a wake-up call. “It’s an awakening that there are people out there that you can’t trust and that will take advantage of certain situations,” Schmidt said. Officers say the criminals knew exactly what they were going after and warning other counties these men could target their stores next.
