Released Madison County inmate back in custody
EAST JACKSON, Tenn. – The Madison County Sheriff’s Department confirms inmate Terron Kinnie, 29, of Jackson, is back in custody. Deputies arrested him after a brief foot chase around 7:30 p.m., near Lincoln St. and Booker St. Residents watched it all go down. “I was in the house cooking some food,” said Crystal Hines. “I saw the police running down the street and they were chasing a man.” Kinnie was tracked down to an east Jackson duplex, after the sheriff’s department received a tip. Deputies say Kinnie made a run for it and was chased down in the woods. “Five or 10 minutes later they were coming out with their suspect,” Hines said. The Madison County Sheriff’s Department admits, Kinnie should have never been released. “There is no room for error or room for a breakdown,” said Lt. Jerry Elston with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. “This is a mistake but we don’t need to make mistakes.” Kinne was released on bond, Friday, when he shouldn’t have. Charged in two cases, he was eligible for bond for one but not for the other, which should have ensured he stay behind bars. Residents say, there needs to be checks and balances. “It’s very scary,” said Carrie Buck. “There needs to be policies and procedures in place to make sure they are being followed” Lt. Elston said an internal investigation is underway to determine what, if any, policies were violated. Something he says his department has gone through before. “We’ve had individuals released in error before,” said Lt. Elston. “We’ve taken them back into custody without incident.” Kinnie is back in custody at the Madison County Jail. Additional charges will likely be filed against him.
