SOUTH JACKSON — The historic Bemis Mill in South Jackson will be torn down and replaced with a commemorative memorial, according to Mayor Gist. The plan was announced during a meeting with Gist, community leaders and neighbors of the area. It was said the mill was not able to be salvaged and was damaged beyond repair. Two acres of land will be donated for the memorial, and builders will use as much brick and wood for the original structure as they can. WBBJ will have more information on this story as it becomes available. Brittany Nicholson will have more tonight at 10.
