Contest winner donates one ton prize to animal rescue group

SOUTH JACKSON — One of the winners of a national Purina contest decided to donate his prize to a local rescue group. Jim Mills, a Jackson resident, was the 1st prize winner of the 2013 Check-R-Board Days contest. Tuesday at R & J Feed Supply, Mills donated the prize — a ton of Purina feed — to Redemption Road Rescue. Redemption specializes in rehabilitation and adoption of mistreated horses. “We work completely on donations and once we run out of money sometimes the volunteers, everybody, open up their check books and scrape out their pockets and try to give us what they can,” Lori Collins said, director of Redemption Road Rescue. Check-R-Board Days is a customer appreciation event that Purina dealers participate in to thank their customers and to attract new customers to their store.
