“Careless criminal” posts photos of stolen items to Facebook

LEXINGTON, Tenn. — It’s a photo that led deputies to a suspected thief. “This qualifies for the world’s dumbest criminal,” Mark Ward, a Lexington resident said. Henderson County Sheriff Brian Duke said Jonathan Holt is accused of stealing a jewelry box from a vacant home in Lexington, snapping a photo then trying to sell it on a Facebook yard sale page. “The victim saw her items on the online yard sale,” Sheriff Duke said. “The residence was in the background of some of the photos.” Residents said they’re glad officers have another tool to catch criminals. “Social media has definitely worked to our advantage in this case,” Sheriff Duke said. As for Holt, now referred to as the careless criminal by deputies, he is charged with criminal trespassing and theft. Sheriff Duke said more charges could be added if they find more stolen items. Deputies are asking anyone who may have bought items from Holt to contact the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.
