Residents come together to “Stop the Chaos” in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. — Stop the chaos was the message from church leaders to residents Thursday night hoping to find solutions to rampant violence in Jackson. Dozens of concerned residents packed Forest Heights United Methodist Church to discuss ways to fight back against the recent rash of crime. Organizer Mychal Hunt said he planned the meeting Sunday night after two people lost their lives to gunfire. “Enough is enough. Especially when it’s people you know,” Hunt said. Several city leaders attended, including Jackson Police Chief Gill Kendrick. “I care about the city. The city’s problems are my problems,” Melanie Taylor said, a worried resident. Hunt said part of the solution is to stop talking and get out on the streets to build relationships with children. “We are able to go into schools and into these areas and tell kids about gang prevention,” Hunt said. Anyone interested in helping “Stop the Chaos” is asked to contact Forest Heights at (731) 668-5209.
