Man arraigned in attempted rape of blind woman

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man accused of attempting to rape a blind woman has been arraigned on three charges. Wiley Austin is charged with aggravated sexual battery, attempted aggravated rape and aggravated burglary, according to court papers. Police say the incident happened on Old Hickory Boulevard, where the victim told officers she was asleep and woke up to a man on top of her trying to have sex. She said she screamed while the man held her down and told her to be quiet, according to court documents. The woman said she felt the blade of a knife on her arm. Her live-in caregiver heard her screams and saw a man on top of her, according to court papers. The caregiver later identified Austin as the man she saw in the apartment. Austin is being held on $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court 9:30 a.m. Sept. 11 for his preliminary hearing.
