Man charged in Jackson beating is arraigned

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man accused of severely beating a man with a wooden plank has been arraigned on a charge of attempted second-degree murder, according to court documents. Police responded Friday to a 911 call about an man lying injured in the roadway on Whitehall Street. A witness identified Mark Tiger as the man responsible, according to court papers. Tiger initially attempted to flee but was taken to the ground by the arresting officer. The witness said that Tiger had been harassing the victim when the victim went to his apartment and returned with a wooden stick for protection, according to court papers. When Tiger saw that the man had the stick, he retrieved a large wooden plank. Tiger and the victim met each other in the roadway where the altercation began with the victim striking Tiger with a stick, according to court papers. The victim was taken to a Nashville hospital, police have said. Tiger is being held on $200,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 11 for his preliminary hearing.
