Man arrested in deadly Brownsville shooting

HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn. — A man has been arrested in a deadly Sunday shooting in Brownsville, according to police. Torvarious Exaviel Mason, 21, is charged Thursday with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder in connection with the shooting on Young Street in which Jarvis Antawn Hines, 23, was killed, according to a release from the Brownsville Police Department. During the course of the investigation, officers identified a second victim who was not injured in the shooting, according to the release. This witness was able to identify Mason as the shooter. This along with other witness information allowed investigators to file charges against Mason. Mason was arrested in Covington and transported back to Brownsville, according to the release. He is currently being held without bond in the Haywood County Criminal Justice Complex.
