Police charge man in fatal Brownsville shooting

BROWNSVILLE, Tenn-Spencer Hines said it is a bitter sweet moment for him and his family after police make an arrest in the fatal shooting of his youngest brother, Jarvis Hines. “This is one of the hardest things I’ve had to deal with,” Hines said. Torvarious Mason has been charged with first-degree murder in the Sunday shooting that killed Hines. Mason is also charged with attempted first-degree murder. Brownsville police said he tried to shoot another man but he was not injured. “We received information from a second victim who identified Mason as the shooter,” Captain Chuck Willis of the Brownsville Police Department said. “A lot of where we are now is because of the community’s help.” Officials like Brownsville Mayor Bill Rawls are urging more residents to speak up. He said he is scheduled a neighborhood watch meeting in the community where Jarvis was killed. “It’s all about a community working together,” Mayor Rawls said. “From the Mayor’s office to the police department and the community.” HInes said his family is pleased with the police’s quick arrest and the community’s help but his family is still grieving. He said his brother, a father of a young son was also expecting another child in just a few months. “That’s a child who will never know his father or have any memories,” Hines said. Captain Willis said the investigation is ongoing to determine a motive or if there were others involved. He is asking anyone with information to contact the Brownsville Police Department at (731) 772-1260.
