Police search for person of interest after double armed robbery in Bemis

BEMIS, Tenn.–Jackson police have one suspect in custody after a double armed robbery Friday morning. Police said they are still looking for another person of interest. According to police two groups of people were robbed at a home on 5th Street. According to victim statements, two armed men described as black males in their 20s approached the house, went inside and took cash, a handgun,and a cell phone. The alleged suspects then left the home and robbed a couple pulling into the driveway of the home, according to police. Neighbors said they have noticed an increase of traffic during the night on the block.” There’s a whole lot of traffic that stops there then goes and stops,” said one neighbor who did not want to be identified. Warren Woodrow lives next to the house where the alleged robbery occurred. He said over the past 8 months he has noticed an increase to crime. After the double armed robbery, Woodrow said he is considering moving his family. “The whole family talked about it last night. Especially after what happened, being woke up at 2 o’clock in the morning, cops all around the house,” he said. Lt.Phillip Stanfill with the Jackson Police Department said residents in the area should not feel nervous, “We do not have any reason to believe this will happen again in the same spot. The neighborhood itself wasn’t targeted,” he said. No charges have been made in connection to the robbery at this time.
