College student charged with bringing cache of weapons to campus

JACKSON, Tenn.–A Jackson State Community college student is accused of bringing an arsenal of guns and knives onto campus. Investigators said Micah England allegedly had three loaded guns and a knife on him at the school Thursday night. Campus Police Officer Shane Young responded to the reports of something students said “looked like a machete knife” on England. After questioning England, Young said the EMT student had two loaded .45 caliber pistols and a 9 millimeter in his pockets and backpack as well as a knife with a 12 inch blade. The suspect told investigators he was prepared to protect his classmates against any 9/11 terrorist attacks. “He indicated to us he thought he ought to come prepared for whatever terrible things could occur,” said Jackson State Community College President, Bruce Blanding. Blanding said the student cooperated during the investigation. The school has a zero tolerance policy for weapons on school grounds. School staff said this case is being reviewed by the dean of students for any possible disciplinary action in the future. England appeared in Jackson City Court Friday morning. England was ordered to have a mental evaluation and has a $50,000 appearance bond. School officials said this is the first time in its nearly 50 year history a gun has been knowingly on campus.
