911 cell phone issue is fixed, official says

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — West Tennesseans should now have no issues with making 911 calls from cell phones, according to a 911 official. Dialing 911 in an emergency now should work from any county in West Tennessee, according to Madison County 911 Director Kim Augustine. They have isolated the problem and rerouted around it, which should prevent the issue entirely, Augustine said. However, having the alternate 7-digit number stored in your phone is a good idea since cell phones can drop calls at any time, Augustine said. Augustine also wanted to emphasize the original issue was not a 911 issue but rather one stemming from wireless network providers.
