CAMDEN, Tenn. — This week’s Educator of the Week presented by the Tennessee Education Lottery comes to us from the city of Camden in Benton County. In Judy Brandenburg’s third-grade class, there is an interesting team dynamic and a true sense of care for the students. “I really enjoy coming every day,” Brandenburg said. “Some days are more challenging than others. We have a wide variety of students in the school with different needs. I find that every day some of them will really surprise you though.” Brandenburg, a third-grade reading and social studies teacher at Briarwood Elementary School for the last three years, is a graduate of the University of Memphis at Lambuth. “Mrs. Ford, she was wonderful, not just play it by the book, but she did,” Brandenburg said. “She would build on no matter what socioeconomic background the variety of children that you had. She serviced them all. That kind of inspired me to have that same outlook as I got into the teaching profession.” Brandenburg says the job has its challenges, from working with students who have special needs to even behaviorial issues. These challenges bring rewards though, as she gets to see the students grow each and every day. “I can see they have something within them to push them on. So I encourage them every day to follow up and never give up,” Brandenburg said. Brandenburg will be eligible for the state-wide Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
