Mom accused of leaving kids in SUV while shoplifting

NORTH JACKSON, Tenn.–Jackson police arrested a West Tennessee mom accused of leaving her two small children inside a vehicle while she reportedly stole from a local store. Kiyuna Mishe Moore is charged with stealing a cell phone from Walmart in North Jackson on Wednesday. Investigators said Moore left her two children inside a locked SUV in the parking lot. Moore addressed the judge at her arraignment on Thursday. “My friend Josh was in the car and I asked him to watch them while I went in Walmart and I guess I took too long,” she said. A judge formally charged Moore with two counts of attempted child neglect and theft of property. “That is sad, extremely sad,” Hazel Hunt said, a grandmother. “Anybody that is that desperate is in a terrible situation.” According to court documents, a loss prevention officer told investigators officers arrested Moore four times before at Walmart and she was not supposed to be on store property. “My daughter does not leave her children in the car,” Hunt said. “If they can’t behave in the grocery store, they go home.” According to an arrest warrant, the children, ages two and four, could not tell investigators how long they were alone inside the vehicle. “I asked them to go out there and tell him to tell him to bring the kids in the car,” Moore said. “They went out there and he was not in the vehicle. He had left them in there.” Jackson police declined to comment on camera about the incident. Moore is scheduled to return to court Oct. 9. She is currently out of jail on $3,000 bond.
