CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — The senior center is getting an upgrade after the popularity of their exercise program is causing major overcrowding. Director Dorothy Leggett said the exercise classes are so popular, overcrowding is getting close to a safety hazard. “We’ve had them backing up in aerobics and set down on the treadmill. It’s a space issue back there, and people could get hurt,” Leggett said. Linda Powers said she depends on the class to keep her moving. “I take limited exercise because I’ve had a stroke and I can’t use my left side,” Powers said. Mayor Gary Reasons said this year the Crockett County budget gave $175,000 to the center to pay for the expansion. It will help them nearly double the size of their exercise room. “They have a reason to get up each morning, and all that means all the world to them,” Leggett said. Volunteers also raised more than $20,000 to help with the project.
