TDOT hosts public meeting for I-40 widening

WEST JACKSON, Tenn. — The Tennessee Department of Transportation hosted a public meeting Tuesday at its facility in west Jackson. TDOT is seeking the public’s input on plans to widen Interstate 40 in Jackson. The section that will be widened to six lanes stretches from Highway 412 to Highway 45, also known as North Highland Avenue. The goal of the widening project is to lessen congestion on the busy coast-to-coast interstate. The improvements will include the addition of one traffic lane in each direction. There currently are two lanes in both directions. TDOT officials say if you travel this section of the city, be prepared for delays once construction starts. “It’s going to be a disruption to traffic,” said Nichole Lawrence, TDOT Community Relations. “We want to put it out to the public and make sure everyone is aware their commute could be changed.” The budget for the project stands at around $90 million.
