HARDEMAN COUNTY, Tenn. — Middleton Elementary School is on lockdown as authorities search for a fugitive believed to be in the area, according to school officials. The schools and local businesses were made aware that a fugitive out of Baldwin, Miss., was in the area. The school then made the decision to lock down, according to Hardeman County Sheriff John Doolen. During a routine traffic stop last night, Shawn Coggins was discovered to have a large amount of meth in his vehicle, Doolen said. Coggins then fled the scene and rammed a police car with his vehicle, according to Doolen. Authorities believe he may be hiding in the woods near Middleton, Doolen said. Middleton High School also was on lockdown earlier but has since returned to normal status, school officials said. Stay with WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News for updates.
