USJ students support Relay for Life with Walk-a-Thon

NORTH JACKSON — The American Cancer Society got a big boost Friday from middle schoolers at University School of Jackson. The students hosted their annual Walk-a-Thon, which benefits Relay for Life in Madison County. Each student was challenged to raise at least $45, and their overall goal was $11,000. Teachers say the children are excited to raise money for such a worthy cause. “It’s hard work to ask somebody for money, and so we just want them to know that we’re appreciative and we’re thankful for everything that they’ve done,” said Candace Dean, Relay for Life specialist. School officials say over the years their Walk-a-Thon has raised more than $40,000.
