DOWNTOWN JACKSON — The American Heart Association’s West Tennessee Heart Walk begins Saturday morning in downtown Jackson. The 3.1-mile walk is free to the public and raises funds to support heart disease and stroke research as well as educational programs in West Tennessee. Brisk walking for as little as 30 minutes a day has proven health benefits, including better circulation and reduced heart risks. The walk is non-competitive, so you do not need to be a regular 5K runner to participate. “We will have survivors who might have just graduated from cardiac rehab,” said Christy Futrell, regional director of the American Heart Association. “We really don’t want people to feel like they have to come out and push for this one.” Registration begins 9 a.m. Saturday on the Madison County Court Square, with the official walk starting at 10:30 a.m.
