Local emergency responders promote America’s PrepareAthon! Day

NORTH JACKSON — Local emergency responders are gearing up for a national day to promote emergency preparedness. September is National Preparedness Month, and Tuesday is America’s PrepareAthon! Day, an effort of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Across West Tennessee, schools, businesses and communities will take actions to prepare for weather events such as tornadoes, floods and winter storms. A local Emergency Management Agency director says although we may not have a reason to prepare for natural disasters right now, it is better to be safe than sorry. “We just want people to go ahead and make the plan now,” said Marty Clements, Jackson-Madison County EMA director. “When you’re not under duress, you can think about what you really need and have a good, thorough plan.” Some schools will participate in tornado drills Tuesday as part of the preparedness events.
