JCM back home; Teaching moment found in homefield disadvantage

JACKSON, Tenn. – The locks are coming off. Jackson Central-Merry’s football team returns to Lane Field, Friday night. “It’s going to be incredible,” said defensive back Martavious Long. “We just love all our fans. We do it for East Jackson.” The last time the Cougars played at home was their August 22 season opener. Since then, poor field conditions have forced them to play home games away. “It’s going to be a sign of relief because it’s been a while since we played at home,” said quarterback Terrance Kinnie. Second year head coach Orentheus Taylor says he used this unexpected turn to teach his team. “Things come up in life. It’s a life lesson. We’re just happy to be back this Friday at the rock,” explained Taylor. The Cougars high spirits will be tested against unbeaten cross-town rival North Side. “Focus on the game, and get a win against a big time team that’s undefeated. We want to try and knock them off,” said Kinnie. Although empty now, the Lane Field stands will be filled with green and gold on homecoming night. Coach taylor says the location doesn’t change their game plan. “Football is football. Of course, it’s always good to get back to our home stadium. We’re just looking forward to playing Friday, wherever we play at,” said Taylor. North Side at JCM isn’t the only action Lane Field will see this week. Lane will also return home on Saturday for their second home game of the season.
