McNairy Co. Courthouse broken into, security cameras useless

McNAIRY COUNTY, Tenn. — A weekend break-in at the McNairy County Courthouse has investigators trying to figure out the motive. “We don’t know what the crime was, so we can’t develop a motive,” Sheriff Guy Buck said. “And without a motive, it’s hard to develop a suspect.” Security cameras on the outside and inside of the building are no help, because the only thing investigators know is missing is the DVR system that sits in the mayor’s office. Buck said employees found Wednesday morning there had been some yard equipment taken from a building behind the courthouse, but with no surveillance there’s no way to tell when it was taken and if it has to do with the break-in. Buck also said he does not believe employees or the community should be concerned about sensitive or personal information in documents within the courthouse being taken. “They would have had to get through several locks to get the employees’ social security numbers and things, and that didn’t happen, or it obviously doesn’t appear like it happened,” the sheriff said. But to be safe, employees were asked to check for any missing files. “We’ve been checking everything — the payrolls, all of the material that we have and everything,” employee JoAnn Pickens said. So far, employees have not found a single missing record. Investigators ask anyone who saw anything suspicious last weekend to call the McNairy County Sheriff’s Office at (731) 645-1004.
