Caught on camera: Strong storm damages Madison County home

NORTHEAST MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — The strong storms that ripped through West Tennessee Friday morning caused thousands of dollars in damage to a Madison County home. Dennis Peevyhouse remembers when the storm swept through his neighborhood overnight on Friday. “We heard a large noise. It sounded like a freight train or something coming,” he said. He said it only took a couple minutes for the storm to pass. “It felt like the roof was coming off and then even on the inside of the house we had some sheet rock that feel from the ceiling,” Peevyhouse said. Peevyhouse’s security cameras captured the whirlwind of rain and debris. He said it was a strong enough to rip branches off a tree. “It happened so fast that I didn’t really have time to get scared,” he said. The heavy winds pulled up a dog house that was sitting in the yard and ended up in Peevyhouse’s pond almost 30 yards away. “The shutters are missing off the house. I don’t know where they’re at, they’re nowhere to be found,” he said. He said while looking at the debris, he realizes it could have been a lot worse. “I think it was pretty severe at a point where I think the roof was getting ready to come off. It just, thank God it held on,” he said. Peevyhouse said he can’t start cleaning up until the insurance company assesses the damage. A neighbor said the strong winds damaged their power line and they were without power most of the day, Friday. Hundreds of others were left in the dark across West Tennessee.
