Oman Arena boasts new sign

EAST JACKSON, Tenn. — The historic Oman Arena in East Jackson gets an update, that city leaders hope will brighten its future. The new electronic LED sign isn’t lit yet but by Wednesday city leaders hope it will brighten up East Jackson while showcasing one of the city’s oldest venues. “The digital sign will enhance the community by promoting the activities and events at Oman Arena,” Jackson City Councilor Harvey Buchanan said. The arenas new sign was installed over the weekend and came with a $25,000 price tag, a typical price according to Councilman Buchanan. Business owners in the arena say it’s worth it if more events come to the arena. “A lot of people, they’re going to come over here now and we’re going to make good business,” Tony Mohsan said. “The business will be going up.” The old Oman Arena sign was put into place back in the 1960’s when the arena was built and hasn’t been lit up in years. Officials say it also sat on a corner that didn’t get much traffic but now the new sign sits at a much busier corner. “As the motorists pass by Lane and North Royal they can now read the sign easily,” councilman Buchanan said. Buchanan spearheaded the project and says the arena is already booking up. “We’re just proud that events are coming back to Oohman Arena,” Buchanan said. “They’re calling weekly so see if they can book the area.” Officials have also partnered with area groups to help beautify the arena’s grounds. The electronic sign was paid for through a budget allocation. Currently, no additional updates are scheduled for the arena.
