Weekend shooting at party in Lexington scares neighbors

LEXINGTON, Tenn. — Neighbors want answers after a weekend party in Lexington ends in gunfire, sending one man to the hospital. “I just couldn’t believe it. It just took me off my feet to hear about it that close,” Vernell Arnold said. He lives just 100 yards away from the shooting scene. Arnold said until he went to sleep that night, his neighborhood was quiet. “I couldn’t imagine what went on, by it being so quiet. Nobody made no noise. It just didn’t seem natural that it would happen in this neighborhood,” Arnold said. Lexington police say a small late-night party at a house on Arnold Drive turned into a heated argument and ended with gunfire. The victim, who was shot in the thigh, was taken by ambulance to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. Police said he was released Saturday morning. Investigators said they are still trying to determine what caused the fight. “It’s been so quiet all the other times. That makes me feel like it was some kind of mistake or something went wrong,” Arnold said. Police said they have talked to several witnesses, but have not made any arrests. Arnold, who has lived in the neighborhood for 40 years, said he wants answers. “I think something should be done. I think they should investigate it closer and find out just what did happen,” he said. Neighbors agree they hope something like this does not happen again. “I just don’t think it will. I just figured it was one of them isolated incidents,” Arnold said. WBBJ spoke with the homeowner, who declined to speak on camera.
