NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Equality Project could not be happier with the Supreme Court’s decision, Monday. “For most nothing changes,” said Chris Sanders from his Nashville home. “But for some everything changes.” On the first day of its new term, the highest court in the nation turned away appeals from fives states seeking to prohibit same-sex marriage. That decision triggered a series of moves in affected states to clear the way for gay and lesbian unions. The justices made no comment, yet end delays in Indiana, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin. Gay marriage is now technically legal in 30 states.

Sanders, an outspoken gay-rights advocate, added, “This gives us more hope and is a great leap forward.” He went on to say that the Supreme Court’s decision doesn’t fix everything. “We still have a lot more work to do even if we get equal marriage in Tennessee,” Sanders said.
