DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man charged in a deadly July shooting in Jackson appeared in court Thursday. Dontavious Hendrix appeared in Jackson City Court for a preliminary hearing where his case was bound over to the grand jury. Three witnesses took the stand during the hearing. A neighbor testified she heard three gunshots the afternoon of the homicide, then saw Hendrix running away with a gun. Hendrix was arrested Sept. 5 without incident in Indianapolis after U.S. Marshals received a tip about his location. Hendrix was developed early as a suspect following the July death of Justin Williams, who was found shot multiple times in a yard on North Royal Street. Williams was transported to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital where he later died. Hendrix is still being held on $500,000 bond.
