Viewing the upcoming partial solar eclipse

There will be a partial solar eclipse Thursday afternoon and evening. It will begin at about 4:50 p.m. and last all the way until 6:07 p.m. The optimal view of the eclipse will be around 5:52 p.m.
Remember: Do not look directly at the eclipse or the sun. The UV radiation is harmful to your retinas and can damage your vision. Instead, you can wear welders glasses, highly protective sunglasses, or you can use a camera or even a cell phone to hold over your eyes for protection.
You also can use what is called a “pinhole projector,” which is a great scientific experiment and tool to view the eclipse. Here is a website on how you can build this device from ordinary household items such as a box, foil and paper: www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/make-pinhole-projector.html
It may be hard to see under partly cloudy skies, but those clouds may clear out for a decent view of this magnificent event in the sky. However, the view will be far more impressive over the West Coast due to the length of day and limited cloud cover.
