NORTH JACKSON, Tenn. – West Tennessee Girl Scouts spent their Saturday earning unique badges during Safety Day. The girls gathered at Grace United Methodist Church to talk about everything from weather preparedness to first aid. They ranged in age from kindergarten to eighth grade. Some of the badges that were earned included the safety pin badge, the first aid badge and the newly introduced West Tennessee Heart Association patch. Troop leader Ginny Mills said the young girls need these kind of knowledge, now. “You’ve got to start teaching children at a young age,” she said. “The more you repeat this teaching the more it will sink in.” Representatives from the West Tennessee Heart and Vascular Center helped the scouts earn their badges, as did WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News Chief Meteorologist Tom Meiners.
