Fire destroys Bolivar business, damages another

BOLIVAR, Tenn. — A Bolivar business has been destroyed and another damaged by a Tuesday night fire, according to the Bolivar Fire Department. The fire occurred just before 9 p.m. at 1108 West Market Street, according to the fire report. The fire was contained in just under 2 hours by the firefighters who managed to locate and begin working on the fire in only 4 minutes. “Training paid off, when we train like we do, its to prepare us for moments like these,” said Lt. Michion Gatlin. The cause of the fire, which caused an estimated $126,000 in damage to the barber-detail shop, is still under investigation, according to the report. There also was an estimated $30,000 in exposure damages to an HVAC unit attached to a neighboring laundromat located just 5 feet from the barbershop. Firefighters said the their response time was relatively quick and that there main initial focus was to contain the fire from spreading to the neighboring laundromat. Neighbors said that the detailing business had a lot of steady customers and that it is unfortunate to see what happened to the business. They also hope that they can recover and continue to bring business to Bolivar.
