Police arrest four in East Jackson shooting

JACKSON, Tenn.-An attempted home invasion sends one person to the hospital and four others are in custody after an east Jackson neighborhood is rocked by gunfire. “I encountered three of them coming out of the woods here,” Interim Jackson Police Chief Julian Wiser said. “Then some other officers responded to the area and they were taken into custody.” The fourth suspect was taken into custody on the corner of Payne and Lincoln streets, only a few blocks away from the original scene.” “We’re in the ‘hood,” witness Gennie Sinclair said. “That’s what happens in the ‘hood when we don’t have activities. We get shot up and that’s exactly what happened.” Investigators say the victim was shot during an attempted home invasion on Whitehall Street. It took only an hour for officers to track down the people, they say, were involved. “It’s a priority for us to act fast on crime and get suspects into custody,” Chief Wiser. Officials say three of the four suspects were under the age of 18. Leaving many in the area upset that children are turning to violence. “They were not prepared before they got to that age by their parents or their family,” witness Stephanie Persoe said. “If they had a better example this wouldn’t be happening.” Overall, residents say incidents like this have become the new normal. “If you’ve been over here long enough it really don’t bother you,” Sinclair said. “All you do is worry about if it’s going to be in your household next.” Police have not released the names, ages or charges against their four suspects. Lincoln Elementary as well as Jackson Central-Merry High School were put on lockdown while police searched for the suspects.
