BROWNSVILLE, Tenn.–The Haywood County Sheriff’s Department is being sued by a former employee, after he said they fired him after he suffered an injury during his training. Patrick Franklin claims in the lawsuit that he injured his knee, and that injury required surgery and called for temporary restrictions on his activities. Michael Weinman, Franklin’s lawyer, said the sheriff was displeased with having to make adjustments to his restrictions, and that is why he was let go. “He brought this to the sheriff’s attention, and that really seemed to upset the sheriff. That was the day he was told that he was being terminated, and that they could no longer accommodate his limitations or disabilities,” said Weinman. WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News reached out to the Haywood County Sheriff’s Department attorneys and they said “a proper response will be filed for any complaint”.
