Henderson County inmate accused of bribing corrections officer

HENDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — Investigators said a man is found with marijuana in his jail cell, then bribed a corrections officer to dispose of it. Captain Tracey Grisham with Henderson County Sheriff’s Department said this is a case he will never forget. “It doesn’t surprise me when they find a small amount of weed, a small amount of tobacco. It’s not surprising to hear that. But it was kinda shocking that he actually thought $200 would get him off of it,” Grisham said. He said Dontoreus Douglas had a small amount of marijuana. When the corrections officer found it, the inmate asked him for a favor. “This certain inmate tells our CO, ‘look, you flush this stuff and forget all about it, I’ll give you $200’,” Grisham said. He said the officer turned him in to administration. Douglas is charged with possession of narcotics in a penal facility and bribery. Douglas was serving time for violating probation. His original charge is possession of marijuana. Investigators are working to find who is bringing the drugs into the jail. “We have inmates that are leaving the jail, going out to work. We know they call friends, they call family members and say ‘hey, leave me something at this location’,” Grisham said. He said they now plan to monitor those inmates when they return. “We are getting a body scanner and we will be implementing it on the workers who come back form work, and that is in efforts to stop this from coming in,” he said. Grisham said the jail received a grant from the state to pay for half of the new body scanner. It will be set up next month.
