GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — The sheriff’s department has charged one person in an alleged puppy mill raided Wednesday in Humboldt. Laura Morris, 48, is charged with 95 counts of animal cruelty, according to Gibson County Sheriff Paul Thomas. One warrant was issued for all counts. Morris is free on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Humboldt General Sessions Court on Nov. 12. The Gibson County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant Wednesday at 232 Pleasant Hill Road in Humboldt where investigators discovered what they believe to be a for-profit puppy mill, according to a release from the sheriff’s office. A total of 95 dogs were removed from the property, 71 of which were documented as having medical conditions, according to the release. The dogs were transported to Lebanon, Tenn., where they will undergo screenings from veterinarians and be cared for until they are available for adoption, the release states. Animal Rescue Corps, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring animal safety, assisted the sheriff’s office in the investigation.
