DOWNTOWN JACKSON– Laranda Murrell was formally charged Thursday morning with two counts of attempted child neglect, after she allegedly left two of her sister’s children unattended overnight. According to court documents, on October 15, Laranda Murrell was left in charge of two of her sister’s children. Police said that night, they received a tip from a concerned citizen that two children were left unattended at an apartment at the Royal Arms complex. Police spoke with the mother of the two children, Lashundra Murrell, who said her children were being watched by her sister. Lashundra then attempted several times to call her sister but she did not pick up. That is when police said they then responded to the apartment with the children’s mother. When officers arrived they discovered the 1-year-old and 2-year-old child asleep and alone. According to court documents, Lashundra Murrell attempted to get in touch with her sister throughout the night. Police said Laranda Murrell did not return to the apartment until sometime the next day.
