EAST JACKSON — Students and faculty at Lane College met Tuesday to honor service members at the school’s Veterans Day ceremony. Service members from the school’s faculty and student body were recognized during the program. Speaking at the ceremony was Sam Joiner, a Vietnam veteran, retired school administrator and Purple Heart recipient. He said he hoped students would take something away from the event. “That they have a better understanding of the freedoms that we have here in the country and the price, the ultimate price that we’ve paid to earn that freedom,” Joiner said. After Joiner’s speech, a balloon release was held in honor of those who continually fight for our freedom.
