South Jackson Flooding Update

The rising river levels on the Forked Deer River are starting to look like ‘deja vu’ for people in South Jackson. According to the National Weather Service the South Fork of the Forked Deer River was at 36.6 feet, almost three feet above flood stage as of Friday morning. Emergency Management officials told ABC 7 Eyewitness News they expect the river to continue to rise into the weekend. Several roads have been blocked and some people are even preparing evacuation. “The beer and the cigarettes, and the bait, and then I have all my music equipment in there. We have it all put up on tables, counters, anything we can find,” said business owner Ricky Davis. EMA Director Marty Clements says if you had any flood problems last May, you should prepare your home or business for more possible flooding overnight Friday.
