Dyersburg Evacuations Begin
Authorities say 50 to 100 homes have been evacuated in and around the West Tennessee city of Dyersburg as waters from swollen Mississippi River tributaries keep rising.
Dyer County Sheriff Jeff Box said Tuesday that the evacuations have been orderly in and near Dyersburg, which is about 70 miles north-northeast of Memphis.
Box says people in Miston have left their homes and jail inmates are being used to stack sandbags in flood-prone areas of the county.
Dyersburg Mayor John Holden said Tuesday people in parts of that city near the North Fork of the Forked Deer River should evacuate.
A levee near Dyersburg was intentionally breached last week to ease pressure on rivers and miles of farmland was flooded.
