Flood Victims Celebrate Mothers Day

It is a surprise bar-be-que for the Hastings family. But this year it is held at a different spot. “I knew where I was coming, right here,” said Don Ed Hastings. The party’s location is at his Finley shop in Dyer County. “Just our shop where we put all our farm equipment, but now it’s our house,” explained Rebecca Jones. The three generations of Hastings lived next door to each other in two homes on HWY 104 West, which is about two miles from Big Boy Junction. Their house is so far under water, you can’t even travel on road to get there. The Hastings moved all of their belongings to the shop, and their grandfather also invited a co-workers family. Now they are all beginning to cope with reality. “It’s just a flood,” said Jones. “Give her some flowers and some sugar and cooking out here today,” said her father Ed Hastings. Even with the threat of the Mississippi River cresting on Tuesday, these flood victims have still found a way to honor the women in their families on Mothers Day.
