Jackson Still Cleaning Up
Homeowners all over Jackson, have been working hard to clean up their yards since severe weather ripped through the city last month, but they say their efforts to beautify the neighborhood have fallen short with piles of debris on every corner. “I think its an eyesore,” said Melvin Lindsey. I don’t know what is going on with the city,” said Allen Mitchell. The street department has asked property owners to pile their storm debris near the side of the road, and promises they will come by and pick it up. Allen Mitchell said he has been calling the city for weeks to remove his debris and feels he has been ignored. “Taxpayers need to know who supposed to get it because we paying for it to be done,” said Lindsey. Since April’s storm-after-storm, the street department upgraded from a crew of about 15 to now 60 and said they are working 12 hour days, until the city is completely rid of storm damage. “A tornado will hit in a certain area. This right here wind storm hit the whole city,” said Percy Jones who works for the city street department. Officials said they have a plan. The health and sanitation department cleans up the small projects, like the debris in yards while the street department hits the major problem areas, but exactly when they will make it your yard, is uncertain. “It’s a slow ongoing process were moving as quickly and safely as we can,” explained Jones. “People complain only because it’s there they want it gone if they want it quicker they can always load it on a trailer truck and take it to the dump themselves,” said Lindsey.
