Pigeon Forge Turns Down Liquor
Voters in the Smokies gateway city of Pigeon Forge have again voted down liquor by the drink.
The referendum on Tuesday was a more pronounced defeat of the issue than a similar vote in 2009, according to The Mountain Press.
Opponent Pastor Ronnie Reagan said he appreciates the stand everybody took. Some business owners say they were stunned by the results. Ken Maples says he can’t understand why Pigeon Forge voters would hand over revenue to neighboring foothills cities Gatlinburg and Sevierville, both of which are wet.
Election Commission Chairman J.B. Matthews says more than 1,100 people cast ballots – more than a third of the registered voters in Pigeon Forge. Matthews says that’s a good turnout for a municipal election.
