Templeton Taking Tough Position

Often when a local official moves up to a state government job in Nashville, there is usually some transition time to get up to speed. But that is not the case for McNairy County Mayor Jai Templeton, who is becoming the state’s deputy agriculture commissioner. Templeton is headed to the position during a time of great difficulty among farmers, since many who live near or along the Mississippi River have seen their farmland under water. Once the water recedes and the land dries, ag producers will have to clear away tons of debris left behind by The Mississippi. “I have a life-long background in production agriculture also a real love for the rural economies for the State of Tennessee, “said Jai Templeton, deputy commissioner for the Tennessee Department of Agriculture. ” And I feel that I bring a unique perspective from being a county mayor to the department of agriculture as far as rural economic development is concerned.” For more information on what the Tennessee Department of Agriculture has to offer to farmers, contact the department in Nashville.
